Our programs operate throughout the year. We offer Fall, Winter, & Spring after-school sessions during the school year. These typically run 2 hours a week for 8-10 weeks per season, depending on holiday schedules. In the summer we offer summer day camp programs on a weekly basis.
Our mission is to support children who are interested in maths and sciences into developing a lifelong hobby that enables them to experiment, problem solve, work in social groups, and have fun. In order to do this they must understand the basics of lego robotics programming so they can be free thinkers and accept any challenge they are given. This is why we have implemented the 3 levels of programming principles that children must take to be able to achieve that level that is required to join our hobby E-Bots club, an FLL team, a school team or perhaps to just play at home on their own mindstorms kit. They will be learning life-long skills.
Children who take our programs are typically 9-14 years old. Certain math skills and science concepts need to be in place before beginning the concept level of programming the chldren are using. The Ontario curriculuum seems to cover these concepts by the end of grade 3, which is why we will recommend your child have finished grade 3.
We also have a program for 7-8 year olds called Wee-Bots. We start with the simple machines, working through copund simple machines and eventually toan ntroduction to robotics using the Wedo lego platform.
If you have a child over 14 that is interested in robotics, please call the office.
All programs are sequential and attendance is important as the children are learning the fundamentals of programming, and each week or day, builds on the one before it. Our class sizes are small compared to most programs which we feel lends itself to more learning through interaction and support.
The ultimate goal for the children is to have fun, learn and develop the interest in robotics to possibly make it a challenging hobby or future job prospect in the years to come.
