E-Bots
The Foundations of Programming Level 1
Introduction |
 |
There is nothing more exciting than a new adventure and that is certainly what a child will feel like they are doing when the world of robotics presents itself. Children will learn what a robot is, how it works, and what sensors are available to make it come to life. Sensors will be explained through analysis, experiment and observation. in an interactive environment. Taking this new found knowledge they will be asked to design and program robots that are "tasked" to produce certain results. Their knowledge of the sensors and how to program them will provide the solution to their design and the task their robot has been given. This will be done working in pairs which will compliment their communication skills and interactive group play.
This level will be available as a half-day program which will have more emphasis on programming and construction time will be limited and a full-day program which will allow for more construction time. Both of these programs will cover the necessary programming constructs for a child to continue to the level II program.
• Recommended for ages 9-15
• Students should have completed grade 3 in June 2011
• No previous experience is required
• Students will have a partner for most activities and are expected to co-operate and share well
• Max. class size of 10

| E-Bots Saturday "DAY" CLUB |
 |
This fun, highly energized club will take place this winter session on Saturdays. Designed so the kids have a long time to construct and play, they arrive for 9am and play until 2pm.
This club is for the child who has completed our Foundation of Programming level III-at the very least level II (or have had previous LEGO robotics experience working with sensors and more complex robot behaviours, please call the office) and wants to continue Lego Robotics as a hobby.
They may or may not have an NXT kit at home but enjoy and want the group interaction this club provides, as they work in pairs or small groups. A new task is given each session, at the beginning for the children to complete in the form of a competition at the end of the session. They have to work through the design, programming, build, quality control and presentation of their robot to complete the task that is given. Pizza lunch (3 slices + a pop) will be included in the day.
• For ages 9-15
• Students should be currently in grade 4-9
• Previous foundation of programming level 2
• Students will have to work on a team and are expected to co-operate, share well and have a good work ethic
• children should be self-motivated and mature enough to stay focused on their robotic activities as this is not instructional sit-down teaching but rather a club where the highlight each session will be on a new concept worked into a fun challenging task that they work on their own time schedule to complete.
• parents should be aware that children will be photographed for youtube videos to show off their challenges, names are never included
• maximum 10 children
program dates for Winter session:
Saturday mornings 9am-2pm (5 sessions)
Dates:
Jan. 21, 28, February 11, March 3, 24
